If you’ve been checking into the BigCommerce platform for your eCommerce solution, you may have noticed some weird pricing discrepancies lately. Over the past couple of months BigCommerce had been doing some A/B testing on new pricing structures and now they have settled on offering 3 plans to choose from.
First off, let’s get this out of the way; Pricing will NOT change for existing customers on BigCommerce. Existing customers will be able to enjoy the added benefits on their existing payment program. So, what are the new changes?
1. The biggest change is unlimited bandwidth for all plans. BigCommerce recognized a flawed structure by pricing plans for a specific amount of products and has implemented a much improved unlimited bandwidth (something far more important in the world of eCommerce).
2. High Volume Capacity. Some eCommerce stores may have experienced down time or server crashes during large promotions or media coverage such as being featured on a “Shark Tank” episode. Well, BigCommerce has taken action to remedy this problem as well. They are offering high volume server capacity. This feature can be available upon request for stores who truly need the extra availability. Note: you should contact your BigCommerce rep in advance of any such anticipated promotion or event.
3. API Accessibility on Platinum Plan – BigCommerce is working on new ways to allow customers access to creating customizations beyond what is available with the out-of-the-box system capabilities.
OK. What are new users NOT going to like about BigCommerce?
Well, BigCommerce has implemented a 2% transaction fee. This fee only applies to the Silver Plan offered at the $34.95 per month. While I don’t like the idea of the transaction fee especially for small start-ups, my opinion is that the $79.95 Gold Plan is a no-brainer for eCommerce businesses. $79.95 as a monthly cost of doing business online is very reasonable for all of the features you get out-of-the-box with the BigCommerce Gold Plan.
